Western Students Lend A Helping Hand

We are pleased to welcome approximately 40 students from Western University to the branches of Mission Services of London this coming Saturday, September 22nd.   Students will be on hand to provide support to Quintin Warner House, The Men’s Mission & Rehabilitation Centre, Rotholme Women’s and Family Shelter as well as to our Community Mental Health Programs.  This remarkable opportunity stems from Western’s annual campus wide program called: Western Serves.

Western Serves is designed to increase awareness among students, faculty and staff about the educational approach known as Community Service Learning( CSL).  This multi beneficial program integrates social services in the community with intentional learning activities.  By connecting classroom with community, students as well as social service agencies benefit in many different ways.  Students experience unique learning opportunities and a valuable sense of community while social services spread knowledge and connect with future advocates and volunteers.

Dr. Amit Chakma, President and Vice-Chancellor of Western University writes: “Service learning is a transformative element of the educational experience at Western that helps shape today’s students into tomorrow’s global leaders.”

Bravo to our local educators, students and MSL staff for participating in such an important project.
