“When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins…”
These are the words of American author, theologian and civil rights leader Howard Thurman and they resonate with each one of us as we pack away our Christmas decorations and begin yet another year of comfort and joy. Mission Services of London begins the work of gratitude. We begin the work of receiving the multitude of blessings in the form of donations, volunteer hours, social media engagement and the simple passing of the message, from one friend to another. We are thankful for the compassion and support that comes from each of us at this time of year and are hopeful that this generous spirit lingers long after the last pine needle has fallen from the tree.
We are proud to offer a unique opportunity for community members to get a better understanding of the services we provide – up close and personal. Mission Services of London’s monthly Mission Tour gives the public a chance to step beyond the doors of our facilities and gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by those living with poverty and homelessness.
“This is a wonderful way to see all the branches of Mission Services of London,” says Melissa Tiller, Volunteer Relations Coordinator. “We often find people in our community are not aware of the services we offer,” she explains. “These tours provide a great opportunity for the public to get a better understanding of what we do.”
Tours run on the last Wednesday of every month, with the exception of July, August and December. Tours begin at the Administration Office, 415 Hamilton Road and progress through each branch of the organization.
